  SARCASM.. Sin or not?
Posted by: Jen - 07-09-2017, 12:31 PM - Forum: General Chat - Replies (2)

Sarcasm.... is it sinful? Yea or Nay?

I hear people justify it and I hear others condemn it.
What are your thoughts? Does scripture condone or condemn it?

well meaning end time conspiracy "evangelism"
Posted by: Jen - 06-15-2017, 08:33 PM - Forum: General Chat - Replies (6)

If you are like me you probably meet some very passionate people along the way who call themselves evangelists, but who are mostly sharing end time conspiracies with others and getting a little... heated, because other Christians don't seem to understand the importance of warning people about all the horrors they talk about. (I do not mean normal explaining of the wrath of God as would appear in the gospel message.)

I know a few like this, they are serious about wanting people to come to Christ for salvation, they know the true gospel, but they seem to put more people off than they realise, and find themselves both isolated from fellowship and annoying most people they talk to. They think it is persecution. I have talked to one in particular for a few years and shared from Timothy how we are not to strive with people etc, and tried in vain to encourage him to just preach Christ and Christ crucified.

We know that the Holy Spirit leads us into all the truth, but I also know that hearing and understanding the word of God, taught in the right way is a big part of that.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for reading or video material about that, from solid teachers that can present the case much better than I can. I see such frustration and such a heart to reach people that I would love to find something that could help this one friend in particular, redirect that passion in the right way.

Any suggestions?

  The Devil's power of death
Posted by: Nigel Williams - 06-09-2017, 10:39 PM - Forum: General Chat - Replies (3)

As the children are partakers of flesh and blood he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. Heb 2:14

In what way did the devil have t'he power of death'?

What is the reason for the O.T. command to kill all the enemies children?
Posted by: Jen - 06-07-2017, 07:12 PM - Forum: General Chat - Replies (5)

A friend of mine is genuinely asking why does God command the killing of the woman and children at various times in scripture when wiping out the enemy nations. She has said she could understand the women's part, if they were part of the problem, but I am struggling to explain to a sincere person the part about babies and very young children without the glossing over answer of "God knows best".

This person is not being antagonistic or argumentative, nor is she trying to judge God. I really want to stress that. It is just that she is wanting to overcome and study more of the word of God and admitting to struggling because of these things.

I will also add here that as a child, with non-christian parents, she was made to go to her room and read a rather serious looking children's' bible as punishment for bad behaviour. She acknowledges that this has made it hard for her years later, after becoming a Christian, to study the parts of scripture where God is punishing children and babies in the same way as deliberately sinning adults. It is something she wants to overcome so is asking for help to understand the reasons this had to happen.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and any insight you can offer.

  What does spotted look like?

Jas 1:27  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

What practically does spotted look like? And what does unspotted look like?

Catholic Bible Query, for evangelism purposes.
Posted by: Jen - 05-19-2017, 12:59 PM - Forum: Evangelism - Replies (6)

Hi, my mum is spending time with a Catholic lady, who has never listened to us before and never shown any interest in the scriptures.
However, she has gotten ill recently and been concerned enough to ask my mum if she would just read to her from Jesus' ministry from the bible.

Of course my mum jumped at the chance and is taking her through Matthew. Already the lady refuses to acknowledge that Joseph"knowing" Mary is scriptural but my mum has just faithfully kept reading to her hoping that the word will convict the lady.

This lady owns a Doughy bible (I think it is called). She claims it predates the King James - it does seem to - and so says  is more reliable.
She believes the KJ was commissioned to be written in a way that would accommodate the divorces of the king and she has been taught it is corrupt and has error in it. Of course there is no such license found in the KJ at all but that is not something mum will argue on as she just wants to keep reading the word and let it do its work, while she has been given the opportunity .

Mum wondered if she would be better reading to the lady from this Doughy Bible so that the lady has nothing to argue about. I have no idea if it is ok to use as I cannot get hold of a copy. I can find later versions but I would like to see the original to compare the verses she has issues with in the King James, so my mum knows what she is up against before she goes to read each day. I cannot find an online copy of that version, the one that predates the KJ.

Does anyone know where I can get such a book, online or otherwise?

Thanks

  Hi, I am Jen!
Posted by: Jen - 05-18-2017, 08:43 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

Hi, I am Jen and I live in Devon in England, UK.

The gospel is one of my main passions, I do love sharing it with anyone when I have the chance to,  but in no way a public speaker or anything like that.

I am not keen on forum debates etc, but happy to learn from others and share when I feel I have anything to offer on a topic.

My salvation was around 25 years ago and I thank the Lord for His faithfulness in that.

I have to say that it was not through any church meeting, conversation or tract I found the Lord, in fact the previous "trendy" gospel attempts of a local Penticostal church convinced me that Christianity was indeed not something I wanted to be any part of. The Lord however graciously met with me unexpectedly,  in a totally worldy setting, when I had no intention of looking for Him, not a Christian in sight, and I have never been the same.

I have no doubt the faithful prayers of a few believers in my life had a lot to do with that. Seeds had been sown I am sure along the way, but I was too dead and deaf and dumb to take hold of any truth that was offered to me. It is just a good thing the Lord was merciful enough to get hold of me and He has held me in His hand, despite all my failings, ever since.  Heart

Thanks for letting me join the site.
